For me American Idependence Day should make us reflect on the American Civil War which was a direct result of the War of Independence, on the retention of British North America, which became Canada, that model of modern Democracy, the destruction of the Indian Nations, and especially the Mohawks, the most loyal citizens of the Crown, who were driven from New York in thousands…But also the reunion of American and Canadian soldiers in both World Wars, who bought us our Freedom.
And today a book is launched to celebrate the life and work of that other First World War hero, Clive Staples Lewis, one of greatest Sons of Ulster who marched towards the Somme.
